With all the technological advances and the prevalence of consumer electronics, what should we do to pack these valuable and fragile items in order to move?
These are Some Key Factors to Keep in Mind:
- Is the item sturdy, such as a remote control for a TV? These boxes can be used. Keep all batteries out of electronics and remotes to prevent them from overheating and leaking, and put them in one place. This is also true for printer cartridges and toner cartridges.
- Professionally pack any items that have glass parts, loose components, or display screens like a laptop. Proper placement in a box is recommended using bubble wrap or furniture pads.
- Use twist ties to keep your work flowing and to label the boxes. This trick is hidden: Make sure your chords don’t get too tight. The more they are pulled, the more mess they will make when unwound.
- You can organize the boxes that contain your electronics according to room and system. Label each box. To make it easier to re-setup the box, you can use different colored stickers for cords. Then, place the same colored sticker where each cord connects. White label stickers can also be used to identify which cord connects to which device. This is especially useful if you have multiple electronic devices, such as in your living room, family area, or home office.
- Screens should not be packed with newspapers. Newspapers can scratch screens and newsprint can get on the screen. Use packing paper instead. This can be easily found at the nearest moving and storage company, home improvement retailer, office supply retailer, and moving company.
- Back up important documents, photos, etc. You can store them in the cloud. You want to ensure that important files are accessible elsewhere in the event of a computer accident.
These simple steps will ensure a seamless transition and easy setup at your new home.
