While there are many kinds of wood available in the market, there are specific purposes which suit some woods. When it comes to wooden pallets the best suggestive woods is pine and oak. Each has its characteristics that suit specific requirements.
So the two kinds of wood material you have to make a decision on are hardwood and softwood.
- Hardwood
Hardwood, as the name suggests, is utilized due to its strength. It is more durable than softwood, making it useful in the construction of high-end furniture and flooring. Hence, the production of wooden pallets out of hardwood is preferable when it comes to storing heavy materials. Due to its higher density, it is fungi-resistant too. And, this makes it suitable for storing food products as well.
- Softwood
Traditionally, hardwood was always preferred to produce wooden pallets. But due to the shortage of hardwood with the constant raising demand, softwood started to rise on the requirement list. Originated from gymnosperm trees, it isn’t as resilient as hardwood. However, due to its low density, it is economical in nature. Not just that, it is also easily available in the market.
As mentioned before pine and oak are the top choices when it comes to wood pallets. They come under the categories of hard and softwood.
- Pine:
It is the best choice when it comes to wooden pallets because when it is kiln dried, it causes minimal destruction. Being high on cleanliness, it is best suited for transportation of food articles and pharmaceuticals. But if your requirement is storage and shipment of heavy load, then pine may not be your best bet.
- Oak:
Due to its strength, it is usually considered in the manufacturing of wooden pallets. This one is also easily available. Markets utilize a lot of oak for construction purposes. The surplus oak wood available is then utilized for wooden pallets. The only issue is that it isn’t economical in nature. Oak is generally available in the higher end of the price list and splurging your budget for wooden pallets is a little uneconomical.
However, the wood choice totally depends on customer requirements. If the customer wants to go with durability, then it is hardwood but if it is affordability, softwood is the preferred option.
